Principal's Message
Dear Families,
It has been so exciting to see how our students have embraced the new school year. I have observed that the students are engaged and are working hard to learn and use the Kingston Primary School and Department for Education, Children and Young People values of ‘Growth, Aspiration, Courage and Respect’.
As a school we strongly value the learning partnership between home and school. This was evident when we held our recent Eat, Meet and Greet afternoon. I would like to thank all the families that attended and to our amazing volunteers for being on hand from very early in the afternoon to assist and ensure the event was a success. It was lovely to see beaming smiles everywhere and to see parents and students getting to know each other. As always we appreciate any feedback you can provide the school on all learning matters but also our community events. If you have any suggestions on how we could make these connections stronger or ideas on future community events, please do not hesitate in coming to see me or contacting me directly via email at angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au. We have already planned for improvements and we look forward to hosting our next community event.
School Association
On Tuesday 21 March at 6.30pm (Week 7 of Term 1) we will be hosting our School Association Annual General Meeting, followed by our scheduled School Association Meeting. The input of our school community is critical, and we would love to welcome new members to our team. The School Association plays an incredibly important role in the functioning of our school. They not only assist in raising funds to purchase resources aligned with the school improvement priorities and vital infrastructure upgrades, but also assist in analysing school data sets and provide input into the direction the school will take over the medium term. Please email Kingston Primary School, kingston.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au and we will happily forward you a nomination form.
The commitment is small with two 90-minute meetings per term. Even if you cannot commit to all meetings, you can still be a member and provide your voice into the school's improvement road map. It is a fabulous way to connect with the school Leadership Team, other families and Kingston Primary School friends.
Kindergarten 2024
In 2024 we plan to have two Kindergarten classes. It is vital that, if you have a Kinder aged child for 2024 (a child born in 2019), that you collect an enrolment form from the office and return it as soon as possible so that we can secure your enrolment.
Our Launching into Learning (LiL) sessions run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. This is a fantastic way to familiarise yourself and your little one with the Kindergarten learning space and meet some of our wonderful Early Learning Teachers and Support Staff. This is also a way to start to make important connections with families joining the Kingston Primary community in 2024. Our fabulous Kindergarten educators, Mrs Anita Grey and Mrs Jess Suffolk, run these sessions and will happily answer any questions you have around our school.
Round one of our Kindergarten enrolment process will be finalised at the end of April. We will look forward later in the year to meeting all of our fabulous Kindergarten students when we host an Orientation Morning.
Child and Family Learning and Early Years Playground Update
As many of you would now be aware, a new Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC) is coming to Kingborough and will be located on the Kingston Primary School site.
A CFLC is a welcoming place for families and young children from pregnancy to five years to come together to grow, play and learn. The CFLC will provide a variety of services to support our families all in the one location. It is somewhere our families can make connections as they learn and play. It will be a space where advice will be given on health and family matters, education and training.
We are incredibly excited by the inclusion of this fantastic centre connected to our school as well as a brand new space for our Early Years students to play. We are now in the final stages of preparation and building works are set to start next month. The new play space and centre will be constructed in three stages with our brand new playground part of Stage 1. Although there will be some exciting works to be viewed by our students there will be no disruptions to their play or learning, with plans made to cater for our students' needs. More specific information from our Department and the construction team will be sent out in the next few weeks.
This is an exciting time for our school community and I look forward to sharing the progress of the build. Plans for the new play space can be viewed in our school foyer.
Kitchen and Garden Program
Our Kitchen and Garden Program is now in full swing. Thibaut and Jade have been working hard to engage our students in a combination of Garden and Cooking classes. Students have spent time working alongside Thibaut and Jade to use produce grown in our garden to create delicious and nutritious treats. The skills the students are developing from engaging in this program is of a high standard. Keep an eye on our online platforms for important Kitchen/Garden updates as well as recipe ideas that can be tried at home.
