Swimming and Water Safety Program for Years 3, 4 and 5
Dear Families,
What a busy start to Term 2 for our staff and students. Students are well into the swing of tackling new learning experiences and building on the important learning they achieved in Term 1. With Winter almost upon us, we would like to remind all families that Breakfast Club runs from 8:30am to 8.55am. All students are invited to come and have a warm Milo, cereal and piece of toast to fuel them, ready to start the school day. A huge thank you to Wendy for always going above and beyond and being at school bright and early ready to feed our smiley students breakfast.
Kingston Primary School also offers professional Chess training on a Wednesday morning at 8.00am in the School Library. This is run by Black Square Chess and there is no cost to students that would like to attend. Everyone is welcome!
Cross Country
Wow, what marvellous Cross Country Carnivals last Tuesday! Thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated. I was very impressed with the atmosphere and level of engagement in the day. It is so inspiring to see students cheering on their peers, and displaying pride in both their House and their school. Our House Captains did an outstanding job leading classes and the level of enthusiasm and encouragement by all was brilliant to see. A special thanks to Mrs Cockerell for her outstanding leadership and organisation. It was great to see so many students participate with huge smiles on their faces. Thank you to everyone that came along to support this community event. It is always great to be able to have families supporting these important school events.
Lunchtime Clubs
Our Lunchtime Clubs are growing in popularity and continue to provide enriching experiences for our students. The Marimba and Drama Club allows students to express their creativity through Music, while the STEM club sharpens strategic thinking skills and fosters friendly competition. These clubs not only provide opportunities for skill development but also create a sense of belonging among our students at Kingston Primary School. I encourage all students to try out our Lunchtime Clubs. These will also be shared on our Social Media platforms at the beginning of each week in our Weekly Events Summary.
Attendance
Being at school is the best place for our children. It is where they learn and grow alongside their friends and where they benefit the most.
At Kingston Primary we have processes in place to record student attendance and plan for regular engagement in school when attendance is challenging. Putting provisions and plans in place at Kingston Primary School to support all students to attend regularly are discussed frequently in our Support Meetings. It is at these meetings additional supports are arranged. These supports can include anything from Breakfast Club to assisting students with bus travel.
We do understand that there is ongoing illness, particularly at this time of the year that can prevent students from attending regularly. In this instance, it is vitally important that the school is contacted so that attendance can be marked accordingly. However we encourage families to ensure that students are attending school as regularly as possible to gain the rewards of being at school every day. Every day counts in the ongoing success of student learning.

In Prep Doyle we have been looking at some of the different ending sounds in words. We have looked at word families for -at, -en, -ig, -op, and -um. This has helped us solidify our knowledge of the vowel sounds. We came up with new words in each word family by changing the onset (the first sound) and practiced writing these. Afterwards we created little booklets to practice reading and identifying these words.
A reminder that our Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP) for Years 3, 4 and 5 commences at Collegiate Pool this Monday 20 May through to Thursday 30 May. Your child will need to bring the following each day:
* Bathers and swimming cap (spare swimming caps will be available at the pool);
* A towel and plastic bag to put wet clothes in;
* Any medication (eg asthma medication) that may be needed at the poolside.
Parents, carers and other visitors are welcome to attend the SWSP sessions, but are asked to ensure that they DO NOT take photos/videos at the pool.
Goggles may be used in the pool, however there will be some water activities where students are asked to remove their goggles.
For safety reasons, ear studs and dangly earrings are not to be worn in the pool. Sleepers are allowed.
Please don't hesitate to contact the school office if you have any questions.
