Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 2! I trust you have all had a restful break and are ready for the term ahead. We have an eventful 10 weeks ahead of us. It has been lovely to see so many smiling faces arrive this week ready to tackle new learning experiences already. We are excited for what is in front of us, including important assessment occurring in preparation for Term 2 Reporting which will see our Classroom Teachers share Evidences of Learning with parents as well as completing the 9 point Reporting Scale and Parent and Teacher Discussions in Week 9, Cross Country, and our Swim and Water Safety Program - just to name a few of the activities on the Term 2 calendar! Make sure you are checking in with our school newsletter, our Facebook page, our Instagram page and are connected to our school communication app - Schoolzine to ensure you don’t miss out on updates of these exciting events.
Child and Family Learning and Early Years Playground Update
As many of you would now be aware, construction is nearly complete for the brand new CFLC located on the Kingston Primary School site as well as a nature inspired Early Years play space. The completion of this project will not only be an amazing resource for our school to access but will also mark the beginning of construction of our Outdoor Classroom and Community Garden Beds, thanks to successfully securing a grant of $96,000 through the Tasmanian Community Fund – Community Grant Infrastructure. We extend our immense gratitude to the Tasmanian Community Fund for making this project possible for our school and community. Please see the design below.
Kindergarten 2025
In 2025 we are planning to have two Kindergarten classes. If you have a Kinder aged child for 2025 (a child turning five in 2025) it is vital that you collect an Enrolment Form from the office and return it as soon as possible so we can secure your enrolment. We have limited spaces remaining.
Our Launching into Learning sessions run Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. This is a fantastic way to introduce your child to the Kindergarten learning space and meet some of our wonderful Early Learning Teachers and Support Staff. This is also a way to start to make important connections with families joining the Kingston Primary community in 2025. Our fabulous Early Years Educators, Mrs Anita Grey and Mrs Jess Suffolk run these sessions and will happily answer any questions you have about our fabulous school. Term 2 is already underway with a variety of cooking, gardening, fine and gross motor activities as well as off site excursions. Please contact our office should you wish to receive a copy of the LiL timetable or an Enrolment Form.
We will start allocating 2025 Kindergarten children into classes from October and want to make sure we have included all of our current families who have siblings in older grades. We are nearly at capacity. If you have any questions around this process, or your child’s placement for 2025, do not hesitate in contacting Ms Crane at school directly or via email – angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au. We will look forward to meeting all our fabulous Kindergarten students later in the year when we host an Orientation Morning.
Rightfully so, much of our newsletter is usually centered on our students and their achievements. However, I would like to briefly shift the focus to that of our staff at Kingston Primary School. It is these people that are entrusted with ensuring your child receives the best possible education and support that we can provide, so that your child can succeed at school. In my time at Kingston Primary School, I have witnessed outstanding Teachers and Support Staff who are willing to go above and beyond to ensure every child and young person is given every opportunity to succeed. These efforts are often in their own time, usually without acknowledgment. We must recognise that an educator’s influence extends beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Teachers support children to reach their full potential in life. We believe it is critical that you know our team well, and you feel welcome to engage with your child’s Teacher. As a result, we are always here to talk should you have any concerns.

Levies are one of the many ways that families contribute to our school community. Levies support student learning by contributing towards the cost of essential items and services. Levies for 2024 are payable now unless a payment plan has been established to pay in instalments. Families who are supported through the Student Assistance Scheme do not need to pay levies. However additional costs such as School Camps apply to all students.
Levies can be paid:
- At the school by EFTPOS, cash or cheque
- At Service Tasmania by EFTPOS, cash or cheque
- Through BPAY using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department for Education, Children and Young People)
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
There is currently a substantial amount of unpaid levies outstanding, which were due for payment by 3rd March 2024. If you have not yet paid your child/children’s levies or negotiated a payment plan, the outstanding amount is due no later than 5th July 2024.
If your family has not paid their levies by the due date and has not organised a mutually agreed payment plan the school will be in contact to remind you that payment is due and will check to see if your family requires support. If your levies remain unpaid after the school has sent two follow-up letters the matter will be forwarded to Finance and Budget Services within the Department of Education to be followed up.
