Dear Families,
We extend a warm welcome to new families who have joined our School Community this Term. It's a pleasure to have you with us. As always we are thrilled to share with you the vibrant events, new learnings and activities that have taken place, particularly over the past fortnight.
Celebrating Harmony Day
We recently celebrated Harmony Day with great enthusiasm and spirit! It was a time to embrace our cultural diversity and promote inclusivity within our school. Students and staff came together to celebrate different cultures through various educational activities. It was a beautiful reminder of the richness that diversity brings to our very own School Community.
Cheering for the Jack Jumpers
Our school spirit was at an all-time high today as we cheered the Jack Jumpers by painting the town green!
Progressive Achievement Testing
Our Prep students will complete Progressive Achievement Tests in Weeks 8 and 9 this term. PAT testing includes two components: Reading and Numeracy. These results will provide further evidence to assist Teachers in supporting and/or extending our Early Years students, ensuring each student reaches their full potential. However it is important to note that PAT testing is just one form of assessment Teachers collect throughout the year to inform teaching and learning. Our Prep students will complete these tests again at the end of the year. This will enable Classroom Teachers to measure growth within a 12 month period. If you have any questions around PAT testing please do not hesitate in coming to see one of the Prep teachers or our Early Years Leader Mrs Hebden.
NAPLAN Testing
I would personally like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students for the dedication, commitment and determination each one of our students demonstrated throughout the recent National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing. We have now concluded our NAPLAN testing for 2024 and results will be thoroughly communicated with the staff and families later this year. The testing is a significant undertaking for our students and their willingness to participate and do their best was admirable. A sincere thank you to Mrs Rumley who coordinated the testing and ensured it all ran smoothly. Mrs Rumley implemented plans to make sure each student felt comfortable, supported and was able to engage in the testing platform in a settled and quiet testing environment. NAPLAN testing was held earlier in the year in 2024, meaning results are provided earlier than in previous years. This has the benefit of giving Classroom Teachers opportunities to analyse data and plan for support or extension for each student based on individual need.
Lunchtime Clubs
Our Lunchtime Clubs continue to provide enriching experiences for our students. The Marimba Club allows students to express their creativity through music, while the Chess Club and STEM club sharpens strategic thinking skills and fosters friendly competition. These clubs not only provide opportunities for skill development but also create a sense of belonging amongst our students at Kingston Primary School. I encourage all students to try out our Lunchtime Clubs. These will also be shared on our Social Media platforms at the beginning of each week.
Kindergarten 2025
Above is information regarding our Pre-Kinder sessions for our students that we will welcome into our School Community in 2025. These sessions are really important in creating a welcoming environment for our youngest students and allows families to familiarise themselves with the classroom and ask key questions of our Early Year’s Educators. In 2025 we plan to have two Kindergarten classes and our classes are nearly at capacity. We strongly encourage any prospective families to collect a 2025 Kingston Primary School Enrolment Pack from the school office which includes important information and some helpful activities for families to complete with their children.

During Term 1, 3/4 New have been studying Biological Sciences. This unit of work provided students with hands-on opportunities to:
- inquire about living and non-living things;
- learn how to think like Scientists to distinguish between living and non-living things;
- explore and describe observable features of plants and animals;
- group animals based on observable features.
On Tuesday 5 March we travelled to the Waterworks Reserve to participate in a day of Forest Learning. Students spent the day exploring the bushlands and observing living, non-living and once living things. They worked in groups to examine rotting logs, searching for specimens. It was a busy day, full of hands-on learning.
Things in the Performing Arts Department have begun well in 2024.
In the classroom students are working on a variety of activities including Keyboard and Songwriting.
Choir is up and running with around 50 students participating each Thursday afternoon, and the Brass and Woodwind Band Program has expanded so much we have run out of instruments and are currently looking for more.
Marimba Band is also rehearsing weekly on Tuesdays at Recess with a dedicated group of about 15 students.
Our Rock Band room is newly fitted out with extra Amplifiers and a PA System we recently picked up from a nearby school. Students from Grades 3-6 can book a Recess or Lunchtime rehearsal time and bring their friends to learn how to put a band together.
Term 2 will see us trial a Before School class for interested students in Grades 5 and 6 who would like to learn to write and perform our own mini Musical.
