Pre-Kinder Sessions in Term 4
Dear Families,
As we approach the end of another term, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and share some reflections on the successful term we've had.
Throughout this term our dedicated teachers, staff, students and community volunteers have worked tirelessly to create a thriving and dynamic learning environment. I am incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment demonstrated by each member of our school community.
Our students have shown remarkable resilience and an eagerness to learn. They have embraced new challenges and opportunities for growth particularly in their achievements around Reading. Their accomplishments, both academically and personally, have been nothing short of inspiring. Our students have exemplified the values of dedication, perseverance and a love for learning.
Our teachers and staff have been the driving force behind our students' achievements. Their passion for education, innovative teaching methods and unwavering support have created an atmosphere where every student can thrive. I extend my thanks to our educators for their dedication to nurturing our students' potential.
As we look ahead to the next term I am filled with excitement, particularly with the anticipated opening of our brand new nature-inspired play space. The construction team have worked tirelessly to prepare this space. Together we will continue to build upon our successes, explore new challenges and provide the best possible educational experience for our students.
I encourage you to take this time to celebrate your child's achievements and to reflect on their growth and development over the past term. Your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education is invaluable to their overall growth and development.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of educating and caring for your children. I look forward to the continued partnership between our school and our wonderful community. I am confident that, together, we will achieve even greater success in the upcoming term.
School Association
Over the last 8 months our fabulous Fundraising Team have raised $12,500 thanks to their hard work and dedication. This is an outstanding achievement and we cannot thank our team, sponsors and community enough for their incredible generosity.
Last Tuesday evening our School Association and Fundraising Team continued to analyse parent surveys assessing student data, collating teacher responses and participating in rich and meaningful conversations around the directions Kingston Primary School needs to take. We recognised and celebrated the success and improvements achieved to date, and highlighted the areas we can improve in, which will ensure our school is one of the best in the state.
Thanks to our fundraising efforts, our School Association has committed to funding the following:
- Continue to fund the Breakfast Club Program;
- Make a contribution to the 2024 Leavers Jumpers;
- Continue to support the Swimming Program for students in Kindergarten to Year Six;
- Fund the online program Reading Eggs which will support the explicit teaching and learning occurring in the classroom. This can be used at both home and school – an amazing resource;
- The upgrade of the GP Room; including blind repairs, fresh paint and new carpet. A consultation process will be underway with staff, students and the entire community early in 2024.
On behalf of Kingston Primary School staff and students I would like to thank the School Association for attending meetings regularly, giving up your own time to organise initiatives (eg, the school successful fundraising drives) and for the positive change you are making to our school community. I would also like to extend our thanks to the Fundraising Team for supporting our incredibly successful fundraising efforts this year. Your ongoing support of our school and all that we do is sincerely valued. We really appreciate you all for your time, dedication and commitment to our school.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable break, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our school.

Hi Kingston Community,
As with everyone my fingers, toes and eyes are crossed, waiting to hear the result of the 7hoFM School of the Year competition. Win or not we know that we did an amazing job with the entry and I am so very proud of our school and community and how they got behind us.
The Colour Fun Run is next Wednesday and I am sure we are all looking forward to it! The money raised here will be going straight back to the school to help with the upgrades to the GP room, the Swim Program and Literacy and Numeracy resources for our kids.
Finally we have a design for our School Association logo. Congratulations Darcy and to our runners up Warren and Tarlia. Thanks to all who entered.
Enjoy the school holidays and we look forward to fun events in Term 4.
If you have any questions, ideas or comments, you can post them in the Kingston Primary Parents and Friends Facebook group or email me at kpsacchairperson@gmail.com

The Kingborough Sport and Recreation Strategy provides strategic direction for Council’s recreational facilities within Kingborough. As part of this process, a survey is being undertaken to better understand the sport and recreational needs of the community, including barriers to participation and opportunities for improved service delivery.
If you would like your child to participate in the survey the link is provided below. Students can choose to give their details or remain anonymous. Students who choose to give their details will go into the draw to win vouchers for Intersport ($100) and Redbill (2x$50).
This year the Lift-Off Festival will be opened by members of TMAG’s Youth Reference Panel, including Kingston Primary’s own Felix Jenkins from 3/4 Stafford. It is Felix’s second year on the panel which gives feedback and makes suggestions to the Museum and is given exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into the running of TMAG. Applications for the 2024 Panel open soon.
Lift-Off is Tasmania’s only dedicated annual cultural festival for children and young people. For four days the Museum precinct is brought to life by a plethora of activities, performances and workshops. The program is available on the TMAG website and is well worth including in your holiday schedule.

Welcome to 2023, “The Year of the Rabbit.” In Japanese this year, students have made and decorated origami rabbits; some students also entered a “Year of the Rabbit” poster competition.
All students from Grade 3-6 have been making Japanese-style “business cards” and origami “wallets.” Students have also been learning a self-introduction in Japanese as well as counting and writing numbers using correct stroke-order. Students in Grades 5 and 6 have been focussing on learning the sounds and symbols in the Hiragana and Katakana alphabets. Students are learning that if a word sounds like it has been introduced into Japan from English or another country, then they must select Katakana which is used for “loan words”; students are learning to read some simple Japanese words like konnichi wa, sayounara and sushi using the Hiragana alphabet.
Students have recently been learning about a traditional Japanese doll called “Daruma”. The doll helps to teach children about being resilient when things are not going well. It has a weight at the bottom, so the Daruma doll bounces back up when it has a challenge in life. In Japan, children draw in one of Daruma’s eyes and make a wish. If and when their wish/goal in life comes true, they say “thank you” to the doll by drawing in its second eye and giving Daruma the gift of sight.

There has recently been a confirmed case of School Sores (Impetigo) at Kingston Primary, a contagious skin infection which starts as a red patch and develops into crusty yellow sores. If your child has Impetigo please keep them at home until he/she has received antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours.
