Dear Families,
Despite a relatively milder Winter it is great to see the first few signs of Spring with warmer days and lighter evenings.
This week we celebrated Book Week. It was wonderful to see the students so excited by, and invested in, our Book Week celebrations. The conversations around the school about why they like particular books and why they have chosen to dress as a certain character from a story were fantastic. The Parade was a huge success and saw fantastic participation from across all grades. Special thanks to Angela Briant and David O’Bryne MP for inviting Kingston Primary School to be a part of the ‘Book Week Costume Library’. What a huge undertaking, but as a result of their hard work and dedication, so many of our students were able to participate in Book Week celebrations – what a huge triumph it was. A further thank you to all the parents, grandparents and Kingston Primary friends who attended and who also put many hours of work into making and organising costumes, contributing to Book Week’s success. As always, receiving feedback on community events like this is critical to Kingston Primary as we are constantly striving to improve in making connections with our community. Therefore if you were able to attend the Parade and have any suggestions on how we can accommodate our growing school, then please email me at angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au.
We also recently held our Kingston Primary School Quiz Night with a wonderful turnout. The evening raised nearly $5000 – funds that will be directly injected into our school and to benefit our students. Events like the Quiz Night reinforce the overwhelming sense of community here at Kingston Primary School. It is so fabulous to see the community throw its support behind these events, but also in the support shown in the day-to-day of fostering such a positive environment for our children. Thank you to all who were able to attend, to the School Association and to our wonderful and generous sponsors and volunteers. A special thank you to Bonnie and Wendy for keeping the event running smoothly with refreshments and snacks, to Ros and Jodie for creating engaging and highly entertaining quiz questions, to Tempest for her IT expertise and to Sam Dobson and Sarah Dance who were instrumental in organizing the event. We appreciate our entire school community.
School Satisfaction Survey
Regarding feedback, the 2023 School Satisfaction Surveys are coming! Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts School Satisfaction Surveys with parents and carers to find out what our school does well and where it could improve.
We would be grateful if you completed the short online survey. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 28 August 2023 until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey by clicking this link or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/Ulf3WnPdCr
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A snapshot of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance. All responses are secure and anonymous. We encourage all parents to complete the survey to give comment on our school’s direction both for the remainder of 2023 and for 2024 and beyond.
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
On 18 August it was National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. This year’s theme was ‘Growing Connections’ and promoted the strong links and social connection in our school communities as effective ways to address and combat bullying.
I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together as a school community to make everyone feel included and safe. Last year's Students Wellbeing Survey data indicated a significant increase in students' sense of belonging to Kingston Primary School. We pride ourselves on developing meaningful and trusting relationships with our entire School Community. A large part of this is ensuring, as a Senior Team, we are incredibly present around our school. This assists students and/or parents in managing challenging situations that may arise through following evidence-based approaches and processes that maintain positive connections between students and our wider School Community.
Bullying can have a big impact across communities and we all have a right to feel and be safe. Kingston Primary School has a zero tolerance policy to any form of bullying and will always take incidents incredibly seriously.
Days like the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence may be a good prompt for a conversation with your children about bullying at school, and asking them if they feel safe and supported or have experienced or observed bullying in anyway.
As a school we will continue to address themes of bullying and teaching students how to recognise risk to their own or someone else’s safety.
This is more than a school issue – it is one for our entire community, and we all have an important role to play. We are stronger when we work together.

A reminder to Parents/Carers that students who have had Gastroenteritis/vomiting should not return to school until at least 24 hours after a loose bowel motion or vomiting. Students presenting with Covid symptoms should also be kept at home until they are well and symptom free. Following Department policy around Communicable Diseases helps to keep our students and staff well and limits the spread of infection. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Please contact the school office if you require Covid tests.
On Tuesday 22 August a large number of Grade 5/6 students took part in the Winter Sports Carnival in a variety of sports. It was a cold day at most venues with some games being played in the rain. In the lead up to the Carnival selection trials were held over 3 weeks for the different sports, which were then followed by training sessions. It was great to see so many of our students selected and given the opportunity to play sport and build friendships with students from local schools. Congratulations to the following students who were selected and participated on the day:
Netball
Samuel Wilson and Henry Kew
AFL
Toby Allen, Ryder Kentwell, Jack Glover and Dempsey Fahey
Soccer
Samuel Lamont
AFLW
Harper Hourigan and Asha Murgatroyd
Hockey
Kenzie Spooner
A special congratulations to Ben Oliver who was selected as team support for the Huon and Channel AFL team for showing great leadership and organisational skills at the trials.
