Dear Families,
It is hard to believe we are already approaching the half way point of the term. Staff and students have worked consistently to ensure positive outcomes and growth for all students. The last three weeks have been extremely busy with students completing online Progressive Assessment Tasks. Students completed online Reading, Maths, Grammar and Punctuation and Spelling tasks. The information gathered from these assessments is vitally important as it will not only assist in determining End of Year Reporting but will also provide essential information for 2023 class teachers. We look forward to analysing the data, sharing this information with parents and guardians in Parent Teacher Discussions and using this information to further support all students to reach their full potential.
Over the last three terms our teachers have been explicitly teaching our children our Department for Education, Children and Young People Values – Aspiration, Respect, Courage and Growth – as well as working with students on the school expectations - Be Safe, Be Fair and Show That You Care. Learning linked to the values and school expectations has included, but is not limited to, our Values Award handed out in Assemblies; explicit mini-lessons in each classroom designed to unpack each value; and an emphasis on all staff using the values and expectation language when interacting with parents, students and each other. This, in turn, leads to an increase in positive choices made in the classroom and playground. As a result, at the conclusion of Week 4, the number of ‘Red Cards’ issued across the school has significantly decreased compared to last year. We feel incredibly proud of these results and hope to further improve these results as the year progresses.
Year 5/6 Camp
Year 5/6 Camp begins next week. Students from 5/6 Stafford and 5/6 Leppard will leave Monday and return Tuesday. 5/6 Clifford and 5/6 Munday will leave Thursday and return Friday. The agenda for camp is busy and filled with lots of exciting activities that the staff at The Lea have been preparing. Some of these include but are not limited to building shelters, high ropes, abseiling and cooking on a campfire. I am sure our campers will come back extremely tired, yet happy. We look forward to hearing all of their camp adventures. Thank you to our dedicated Year 5/6 teachers, parent volunteer Mrs Fiona Woolley, our fabulous Teacher Assistant Mrs Jade Primrose as well as Mr Chris Anagnostis for working tirelessly to ensure this camp will be an absolute success.
End of Year Reporting
End of Year Reports will be sent home for all Prep to Year 6 students on Friday 9 December. Our Kindergarten students will receive their reports on their final day for the week during Week 8 of school. Face to face Parent-Teacher Discussions allocated for conversations about this report with our wonderful teaching team will take place on Monday 12 December through to Friday 16 December. We will be again using an online platform to book these sessions. We have taken on parent feedback from the last reporting period and have made some small changes to how this operates. Information on how to book a Parent Teacher Discussion will be sent out in Week 7.
Families will also receive 2023 Class Placements with End of Year Reports. This will notify parents of their child’s 2023 classroom teacher. On Monday 19 December, your child will have the opportunity to not only meet their 2023 classroom teacher but also their class mates. They will also visit the classroom where they will be located. This will occur during the school day. Meeting their teacher and peers is a valuable opportunity for students to understand what is expected of them in 2023, whilst also becoming acquainted with their surroundings, enabling the students to return in the new school year with confidence.
Garden Blitz 2022
A huge thank you to our in school garden expert and community volunteer, Mr Bruce Champion for supporting garden projects across the school to improve the landscape this term. It was fantastic to see the smiling student faces as they completed a variety of activities including weeding, watering, planting and mulching this week. A big thank you to Bruce and his team for supporting the continuous success of our gardens. Our Kingston gardens are a fantastic resource which enable all of our students to learn, play and contribute to our school in an engaging and authentic way. With 2023 planning already underway, our gardens are sure to be bigger and better next year.
School Association
In 2022 we have worked hard to encourage more community and parent members to join our School Association. The School Association plays a very important role in supporting our staff and students with school improvement initiatives and actions to assist in creating a connected and engaged school community.
Over the last 12 months our School Association has grown and worked tirelessly in assisting to provide opportunities for our students in many different ways. The School Association is ideal to interact with the school at all levels. This is also an opportunity to meet the wider school community. The commitment is small with only two, 90 minute sessions a term held on a Tuesday afternoon and evening.
As a parent/guardian at Kingston Primary School, we invite you to come along and participate in our School Association. We need your voice! Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 6 December beginning at 6.30pm in the school Library. We hope to see you there!
