Tooth Decay and How to Prevent It!
Dear Families,
So far, it has been a very busy and exciting term for our 346 primary school students and teachers. Our key focus will always be on our core subjects of the Australian Curriculum: English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Science (HASS). In addition to these core subjects we are also involved in various extra-curricular activities such as sporting events, High School Transition, band tours and other in-house school events.
On Friday evening it was a pleasure to see the school involved in our School Disco. This was our first School Disco since these types of events were put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was so wonderful to see our students respectfully enjoy the music and dancing at each session. Of course these types of events cannot possibly go ahead without the amazing parent volunteers that work tirelessly to support our brilliant school. A huge thanks to Sam Dobson, Sarah Dance, Claire Jones, Bonnie Payne, Annie and Howard Oettle, Jo Gomer, Samara Jenkins, Ange Quinn, Amy Paul, Lillian Taylor and Rosalind McGuire. Without the dedication from our parent volunteers, events such as this would simply not be able to occur. It is never easy giving up time on a Friday night and we are incredibly grateful for your support.
Our next School Association fundraiser will be the 'Around the World in 80 Questions' Quiz Night which will be held on Saturday 10 September at 7.00pm. You do not want to miss a spot at this event which promises to be highly entertaining. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased via the link www.trybooking.com/CBEYC.
Covid-19
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that Covid-19 continues to present several challenges. Currently we are experiencing an increase in positive cases and staff and students presenting with flu like symptoms. We appreciate and thank you for your understanding as we work extremely hard to maintain consistency in teaching and learning across the school.
Whilst it is not mandatory for adults to wear masks while on school property, it is recommended by Public Health. We must continue to social distance where possible, maintain high levels of hygiene and stay away if unwell. If you require RAT tests please contact the front office. It is vital that students, staff and community members continue to test when displaying symptoms. We thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
Book Week
Our Book Week Parade will be held on Wednesday 24 August at 9.15am on the netball courts. The event will still proceed if the weather is wet with alternative arrangements announced via social media, class messaging platforms and Konnective. Students and staff are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character or to come as a representation of the theme 'Dreaming with Eyes Open'.
Families and Kingston Primary School friends are welcome to come to watch the Book Week Parade but please consider and abide by all of the Covid-19 regulations. Senior Staff will be on hand to assist parents in finding a space to watch the parade.
Term 3 Assemblies
We are incredibly excited to welcome our parents back on site for Assemblies to celebrate and share in the fabulous learning occurring across all classes. In Term 3 we continue to run Assemblies in the same way as Term 2. We will run Early Years (Prep to Year 2) and Middle/Upper Primary Assemblies. The roster below will advise when your child’s class will be attending and presenting. Classes highlighted on the roster below will present this term. Our first Assemblies for this term will be held on Thursday 25 August (Week 5) and Thursday 1 September (Week 6) for Middle and Upper Primary. Each assembly will begin at 1.45pm in the GP Room and will finish prior to the end of the school day.
All Parents/Carers of children from classes presenting are encouraged to attend and follow Covid-19 regulations in place. If you are attending an Assembly please ensure that you do not park in the Drop Off and Pick Up Zone. This will guarantee a smooth end to the school day. We look forward to seeing you there.
2023 Classes
At this time of the year, we start planning for the next year class models, staffing and student allocations into classes. Teachers are inputting vitally important academic and social data to ensure we have the best placement for your child in 2023. In October we start creating our 2023 classes by allocating students into classes. We do not do parent requests for teachers however if there is an educational reason for wanting your child in a particular class, please email me, angela.crane@education.tas.gov.au before 18 October. We cannot always guarantee requests but will do our very best to accommodate each wish.
That’s all from me this fortnight. It’s been great spending time with our Kingston community this fortnight. As always, should you have any questions or queries about the school, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Kingston Primary School P&F, together with sponsor GMC Advisors, are coordinating a Colour Blast fundraising event to raise funds for OUR wonderful school. This is a school-wide event, and we would love for every student to join the fun*. We have set a $5,000 fundraising goal, and we think together we can make it!
WHEN: Term 3 - Week 10, Wednesday 28 September 2022. After lunch, students will be walking, running, skipping, or hopping to the finish line in a blast of colourful happiness.
WHERE: Our School Grounds – there will also be an obstacle course!
COST: $10 per student (This covers paint, finisher’s medal, sunglasses, a colourful headband, and a certificate).
WHAT TO WEAR: A white t-shirt and shorts/track pants. It all washes out easily, but best to not wear your favourites.
Registering your student is easy.
- Go to colourblast.com.au/schools/
- Click on the REGISTER pink button on the top right-hand corner.
- Scroll down the page, below the Australia map, and type in our school’s name.
- Click on the pink GO TO PAGE button below our logo.
- Now follow the prompts and complete the final three steps.
FUNDRAISING:
Once you have registered your children, you can start your fundraising. We recommend using just one child’s fundraising link (if you have more than one child) as your link to share with friends and family for your fundraising. Every $20 you raise; you will receive a $5 gift card from the selection. Raise $100 and earn a $25 gift card. Whilst we would prefer all fundraising to be completed online, if you would much prefer a paper version, please see the office for an official form. Fundraising closes midnight, 13 September 2022.
REGISTRATION TIME FRAME: Due to some technical issues with the Colour Blast website, we have extended the deadline for registrations. Jump online now to register!
* NOT SURE ABOUT THE PAINT? Made from GF corn-starch and coloured by vegetable extract, paint will be squirted from a bottle. There will be designated paint squirt stations, so if you think you’d like to avoid the colour, you can just go around. We’ll be aiming for those white t-shirts and all participants will have sunglasses for extra eye protection.
* NEED HELP?
- If you are not the best with technology, we can organise to meet you at school and step you through the registration process.
- Have multiple children or worried about the cost? We are here to find a way to make sure your child can join the fun.
- Your child would really prefer not to participate?
Just leave your name, child’s name, mobile number, and your concern with the office, and we will be in touch as soon as we can.
We look forward to reaching our goal, building memories, and seeing the huge smiles on students’ faces. Families are welcome to watch the fun!

3/4 Rickus have been learning about Multiplication in Maths. We've been developing our fluency of times tables facts as well as developing our understanding around how to reach an answer. A game we've been playing to practise these skills is Multiplication Tetris where we created arrays when rolling two dice. If your opponent rolls the dice and they cannot fit their array on the board, then you are the winner!
Grab some friends and join us for a quiz around the world!
Dinner
You are welcome to bring your own food and snacks for your table.
Teams
Maximum team size is eight, and ideally teams should have at least six members. You will need a team name for booking, but it can be changed on the night. If you don't have a team, get in touch.

This quiz night is fancy dress and there is a big wide world out there to inspire you! We do ask all those who choose to dress up to be respectful and considerate of other cultures when choosing costumes.
