Free Youth Activities Program 2020

This week at Kingston Primary School we celebrated Remembrance Day throughout the school. Classes were able to engage in a range of class activities in making connections with Australia’s history and its proud involvement in armed conflict over the past 102 years. A one minute silence was observed in some classes to remember the deceased, especially for soldiers who died fighting to protect our way of life. It was wonderful to see a range of learning opportunities being explored across the school in different ways to make this significant event relevant and meaningful to our students.
Today students who were selected to represent the school at the Huon Channel Athletics carnival travelled to Huonville to compete against other schools in the Huon and Channel area. Students were proud to represent Kingston Primary wearing the new athletics tops provided by the School Association. The new sports top is an outstanding addition to the school which proudly displays the school colours and name.
NAIDOC Week has been celebrated across Australia this week. Students in our classes were very busy celebrating our First Nations people and their culture. Dreamtime stories were explored and investigated across the ECE classes. The Upper Primary classes researched and wrote information texts exploring the meaning of NAIDOC week. The 2020 theme for NAIDOC week is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, and recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. It acknowledges that hundreds of nations covered this continent which were all managing the land to sustainably provide for their future.

Past and Present Inquiry
This term in Prep Kilpatrick we have been exploring the concept of past and present. We have been learning about how history is shared by examining items from the past, speaking with people who lived in the past and visiting the Channel Heritage Museum on an excursion. We have discussed how things have changed over time and made predictions about what life might be like in the future.
