Issue 16, 22 October 2025, Week 2 Term 4

Dear Families,
A very warm welcome to all our students and families as we begin Term 4. The term has started on a really positive note, with exciting upgrades to our Kindergarten play space now complete. It has been wonderful to see our littlest learners exploring the area with curiosity and enthusiasm and of course, with big smiles on their faces. The new additions have created endless opportunities for hands-on learning, imaginative play and social development. Although this phase of work is now completed, we are now aiming to complete an upgrade to our Kindergarten classrooms, building on the open and bright spaces already in place to further enhance learning opportunities for our youngest students.
At Kingston Primary School we place a strong emphasis on continually improving and modernising our educational spaces—both indoors and outdoors—to support high-quality learning experiences. While the Leadership Team continues to work closely with the School Association to plan for long-term infrastructure upgrades, we’re thrilled to share that several smaller projects are already well underway across the school. One of the most exciting additions is the 24 Carrot Kitchen and Garden HUB located near the CFLC, which will open in just a few short weeks. This space is an invaluable resource that promotes hands-on learning deeply connected to the Australian Curriculum, with endless benefits for student engagement and wellbeing. We’re also working toward refreshing all classrooms with new desktops and freshly painted interiors before the end of the year—creating bright, welcoming environments for our learners.
A reminder that our next School Association meeting is scheduled for Thursday 30 October at 6:00pm. While we understand not all families can attend in person, you’re always welcome to email the School Association, kingstonpsassociation@gmail.com, or myself at angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au if you’d like to raise a concern or share an idea for improvement for us to discuss. We truly value your feedback and love hearing how we can continue to make Kingston Primary School the best it can be.
Kingston Primary School Welcomes Pre-Kinder Students!
We are thrilled to welcome families with children turning four on or before 1 January 2026, to our Pre-Kindergarten sessions running throughout Term 4.
Our first Pre-Kinder session last week was a resounding success with both students and families embracing the experience with enthusiasm. It was heartwarming to see our future learners exploring the space, engaging with activities and beginning to build connections with staff and peers. The smiles, curiosity and confidence shown by the children were a wonderful reflection of the supportive environment we strive to create.
Pre-Kinder is such an exciting time for our Early Years Team. These sessions give us the opportunity to spend time with your children, begin forming meaningful relationships, and ensure a safe and connected start to their educational journey. We are committed to making this transition as smooth and joyful as possible.
Each session allows children to explore our Kindergarten classrooms, meet their future teachers and classmates, and become familiar with the school environment. It’s also a great opportunity for families to connect with our School Community, including our Leadership Team, School Nurse and other key staff members.
Pre-Kinder Session Schedule:
- Week 3 (31 October): Mrs Suffolk's Classroom
- Week 4 (7 November): Ms Stacey's Classroom
- Week 5 (14 November): Mrs Suffolk's Classroom
- Week 6 (21 November): Ms Stacey's Classroom
- Weeks 7–9 (28 November – 12 December): Children will spend time with their allocated 2026 Kindergarten teacher and peers.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming sessions and continuing this exciting journey together.
2026 Class Placements
We are in the final stages of finalising class placements for 2026. If parents or carers have any specific requests that you feel will support your child’s learning, please contact me by email at angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au before Friday 24 October. While we are unable to accommodate requests for specific teachers or class structures (composite or straight), we welcome input that helps us provide the best possible support for your child’s learning needs.
As in previous years, students have been invited to nominate at least two peers they would like to be placed with in their class next year. We will ensure that each student has at least one person from their list in their new class. In Week 10 of Term 4, students will be given the opportunity to spend time with their 2026 classmates and teacher.
Just a reminder that the Show Day public holiday is tomorrow and Friday 24 October is a student-free day. Staff will be participating in incredibly important Professional Learning on the student-free day that will continue to ensure we are meeting (even exceeding) Departmental expectations. Our School Office will be open as normal on Friday.
Please stay connected through our fortnightly newsletter, Social Media posts, Schoolzine, Seesaw or drop in and have a chat with one of our fabulous team.
That’s all from me this week. Have a wonderful long weekend.

It’s been a busy and exciting start to our final term in Kinder! The children have been loving the new additions to our outdoor playground. Our mud kitchen, complete with a brand-new table and chairs, has inspired lots of imaginative play and some very muddy (but delicious!) pies. The balancing log has been a fantastic way for us to practise coordination and build confidence. We’re also enjoying our beautiful new long table and chairs, perfect for sharing lunch together. We can’t wait to use it for some outdoor learning once the wind settles down!
Another favourite this term has been our farmers market imaginative play area. The children have been busy serving up delicious coffees and fresh produce, all with 10/10 customer service! It’s been a wonderful way to encourage role play, communication and creativity.
This term our inquiry is all about growth. We’ve planted grass seeds to create our very own grass heads, and after just one week we’re already seeing little green shoots popping up! Building on our learning from last term about what living things need to survive, we’re now putting that knowledge into action to care for our grass.
Here’s some of the children’s thinking about growth so far:
- “We go to sleep and we get big.” – Rhyme
- “You need to sleep so you can grow.” – Elijah H
- “Mum shaves my hair off because it grows.” – Harry
- “I grow up and I need new shoes.” – Elijah C
- “When something grows it gets bigger.” – Isabelle B
- “Flowers need water and sun to grow.” – Cody
We’ve also been working hard on our daily phonics. The children are becoming experts at identifying syllables, rhyming words and beginning sounds. It’s wonderful to see their confidence and skills growing each day.
We’re looking forward to a term full of more learning, discovery and fun!
