Volunteers in Aged Care

Dear Families,
Kingston Primary School congratulates our newly appointed 2025 Student Leadership Team! These exceptional students have demonstrated a commitment to our school values and a passion for making a positive impact. As leaders, they will play a vital role in representing their peers, fostering a sense of community and contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of Kingston Primary. We look forward to their contributions throughout the year as they work alongside staff to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all.
Kindergarten 2026
In 2026 we are planning to have two Kindergarten classes. If you have a Kinder-aged child for 2026 (a child turning five in 2026), it is vital that you collect an Enrolment Form from the School Office and return it as soon as possible so we can secure your enrolment.
We also welcome our prospective students and families for our 2026 Kinder intake to join Mrs Jess Suffolk and Ms Ange Crane for a school tour on Friday 28 March or Friday 4 April beginning at 2.00pm. However bookings are essential. To register please visit: https://forms.office.com/r/5DHW5JJLTZ or contact the School Office on 6229 5728.
Our Launching into Learning (LiL) sessions run Mondays and Fridays. This is a fantastic way to introduce your child to the Kindergarten learning space and meet some of our wonderful Early Learning Teachers and Support Staff. This is also a way to start to make important connections with families joining the Kingston Primary community in 2026. Our fabulous Early Years Educator Mrs Jess Suffolk runs these sessions and will happily answer any questions you have about our fabulous school. The Term One program is underway and filled with a variety of cooking, gardening, fine and gross motor activities as well as off-site excursions. Please contact our School Office should you wish to receive a copy of the current LiL timetable or an Enrolment Pack.
We will start allocating 2026 Kindergarten children into classes and want to make sure we have included all of our current families who have siblings in older grades. If you have any questions around this process, or your child’s placement for 2026, do not hesitate in contacting Ms Crane at school directly or via email – angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au. We will look forward to meeting all our fabulous Kindergarten students later in the year when we host an Orientation Morning.
NAPLAN Testing
I would personally like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students for the dedication, commitment and determination each one of our students demonstrated throughout the first week of the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing. The testing is a significant undertaking for our students and their willingness to participate and do their best has been admirable. A sincere thank you to Mrs Rumley who prepared and coordinated the testing, working hard behind the scenes to ensure it runs smoothly. Mrs Rumley implemented plans to make sure each student felt comfortable, supported and were able to engage in the testing platform in a settled and quiet testing environment. NAPLAN testing is now held earlier in the year, meaning results are provided earlier than in previous years. This has the benefit of giving Kingston Primary School opportunities to analyse data and assess the overall improvement trajectory of the school.
Social Media
The use of Social Media is increasingly a part of everyday online activities, particularly through mobile devices. Responsible use of digital technology is everyone’s business – this includes users, providers, parents, schools and communities. Most online safety (eSafety) issues that impact our school day occur or begin when students are online outside of school hours. It is critical that children know how to use online technology safely and are supported in behaving respectfully and responsibly to keep themselves and others safe.
Whilst legally children should not be using any Social Media platforms until the age of 13, we do recognise that there is a large percentage of our Year 5-6 students engaging in this space. We all have the responsibility to model and promote a positive and safe online environment and we strongly urge that any online activity is monitored by adults at home.
Ange Crane
Principal
Kingston Primary School is very fortunate to have a rich multicultural community. We would like to acknowledge this diversity by celebrating Harmony Day on Friday, March 21 March.
As part of this celebration, your child’s class will be having a shared lunch. Students are encouraged to bring a plate of food representing their culture to share. Some examples could be sushi, pizza, vegemite sandwiches, etc. Food should be appropriately prepared for sharing.
All food should be nut free in line with school policy. We also ask that food be sesame free (no sesame or tahini) and egg free (no raw or hard boiled egg, but egg cooked in a prepared dish is okay). Please include an ingredient list with your dish.
Please ensure children are also bringing a packed lunch to ensure they have an option of something to eat if the shared dishes are not suitable for their dietary needs or preferences
Students are also invited to wear traditional dress to school on this day. We will be holding an Assembly on Friday 21 March at 2.00pm to allow students to share this part of their culture with the rest of the school. All parents are welcome to attend.
There will be no canteen available on this day.
