Dear Families,
There’s no denying it – it’s been another huge fortnight of events since our last newsletter. The wet and wild weather has not slowed us down one bit. Highlights have included our Special Persons Breakfast as well as our Chess Tournament.
What an amazing turnout to our Kingston Primary School Family Special Persons Breakfast last Friday morning. We cannot thank our community enough for giving up their morning to connect with our school and its community. Events like the Special Persons Breakfast and recent Book Week celebrations reinforce the overwhelming sense of community here at Kingston Primary School. It is so fabulous to see our families embrace our events, but also the support shown in the day-to-day fostering of such a positive environment for our children. Thank you to all who were able to attend and especially to our wonderful and generous volunteers. A special 'thank you' to Wendy Thomson who was instrumental in organising the event. We appreciate Wendy's hard work in facilitating the Special Persons Breakfast and our entire school community for showing their support.
Parent Teacher Discussions
During the week beginning Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September 2024 all teachers (with the exception of 5/6 Leppard/Brooks) will be conducting Parent-Teacher Discussions. 5-6 Leppard/Brooks will hold Parent-Teacher discussions during the first few weeks of Term 4.
These discussions are an important aspect of our School Reporting procedure and provide opportunities for Teachers to share information with you about Class Programs and how your child is progressing this year. Discussions will be held in your child’s classroom and will be for 10 minutes in duration.
Classroom Teachers will share Evidence of Learning online via the Seesaw communication platform or via an Open Classroom afternoon. The snapshot of student learning will allow Parents/Carers to then ask any clarifying questions throughout the Parent Teacher Discussion.
Bookings are essential and can be made online by typing the following link in your web browser. The Online Booking System will be open for bookings until Friday 13 September:

Our fabulous Office Staff will be available to support any Parents/Carers needing assistance with booking an appointment. The following tutorial may also be helpful: www.schoolzine.com/sk-booking-guide
Families Satisfaction Survey 2024
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child's school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our Online Survey about Kingston Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our School Planning and decision making. The survey is open from Monday 2 September 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete. Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the Online Survey by clicking this link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/xcLgG5g28u
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential. All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance. Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
2025 Classes
At this time of the year we start planning for the next year class models, staffing and student allocations into classes. Teachers are inputting vitally important academic and social data to ensure we have the best placement for your child in 2025. In October we start creating our 2025 classes by allocating students into classes. We do not do parent requests for teachers however if there is an educational reason for wanting your child in a particular class or not then please email me, angela.crane@decyp.tas.gov.au before October 18. We cannot always guarantee requests but will do our very best to accommodate each wish.
We have some fabulous events planned for the next fortnight with our Year 5-6 Excursions to Hasting Caves, School Association catch up, Bush Adventures in Kindergarten and Prep and our second Whole School Assembly for the Term. Please make sure you follow along with our learning journey on Social Media, Seesaw and in our next fortnightly newsletter.
That’s all from me this week. Stay warm and dry!

On Wednesday 11 September Kingston High School Senior Staff will hold an interactive session for Grade 6 students and their families. Students will work with their families on activities related to timetabling, subject variety, curriculum and assessment. This session will cover off on many of the logistics of starting high school and is designed to put students and families at ease about this major transition point.
The session will take place in the Kingston Primary School Library from 6.00pm - 7.00pm.
Year 5/6 Cai/Brooks have been studying Earth’s Changing Surface in our Science Unit. We have learnt about rapid and slow changes to the Earth’s surface which include events like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, wind, floods and ice. We displayed our information on posters in the classroom.
As part of our Science Unit we will be going on an excursion to Hastings Caves. We have been learning about the different types of caves and how they are formed. We have made cave dioramas to show different features that exist in each type of cave.
A Lava Cave is when lava hardens during the last stages of its activity.
‘We found it interesting to learn that some lava caves contain ice.’ (Mia–Rose and Jaylah)
A Glacier Cave is formed within the ice of a glacier.
‘I thought it was interesting that a person can die in half an hour if they are not wearing the right clothes in a glacier cave.’ (Neeraj)
‘I found it interesting to learn that ice caves can indicate the health of a glacier.’ (Lily)
A Talus Cave is a type of cave formed by the gaps between large boulders that have stacked up over time.
‘We found it interesting that the cave is only rock and sometimes has water.’ (Billy, Jax and Benny)
We are really enjoying our Science Unit and can’t wait for our excursion to Hastings Cave.
